The key to making the best hiring decisions is to raise your expectations. When you expect more, you can't help but get more.
For over 25 years now, I've done speaking, training and consulting work for every kind of organization and every type of industry you can imagine. I've analyzed their employee recruiting and selection policies and procedures and worked with many of them to create more effective systems. Over time, I couldn't help but notice that the most successful, most profitable companies in North America have one simple thing in common when it comes to recruiting and hiring employees --- they all set very high expectations. And not just for exempt staff either. They raise the bar just as high for their hourly employees and they never lower it, even when there's a shortage of available talent.
The opposite is the case at mediocre or barely subsisting companies where the hiring managers have fallen into the "best applicant" syndrome. Too bad, because they'll never improve the effectiveness and quality of their organizations by hiring only the best of those who apply. The best applicant and the best employee are rarely one in the same. This is the essence of my Hire Tough, Manage Easy philosophy. Even if you occasionally miss the mark, you will still be hiring to a higher standard. Raising your expectations is the fastest way to raise your results.
DES Employment Group offers multiple facets to their recruiting process – our internal employees go through a variety of interviews to ensure we are selecting only the best people to represent us.
